Facebook is by far the largest social networking site with millions of people connecting each day. However there have been some concerns recently that Facebook has been lax on their privacy controls and that they are allowing information to be shared without the users consent. In Monday’s edition of the Washington Post, Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO, published a letter outlining their plans to simple yet increase the privacy settings and denied that any information is being shared or sold without consent. It may to be too little too late for some users who no longer trust Facebook; however, as immensely popular as Facebook is I’m sure they will be fine. You can read the letter yourself by visiting WashingtonPost.com.

The quantification of the dollar amount concerning the effects of political corruption is an impossible task. The quantitative effects can not be determined. Research experts have used a variety of methods in their attempts to put a dollar amount on the severity of the effects, empirical methods and regression analyses, the truth of the matter is that it is virtually and literal impossible to truly calculate. No politician keeps a record on the amount of money they budget in each month for paying off bribes.

This is one kind of annual investment that will not appear on the books. On top of that, there are many forms of bribery, from presents given, to promises made to favors fulfilled. How can one put a price on such esoteric happenings? The best that the researchers can do is to find ways in which to correlate the economic development, or the degradation of social systems and the condition of the environment to the corruption levels already known to exist for any given region or country or system.

And while the ramifications on the social structure is the most destructive aspect of political corruption, this remains to the aspect that is the hardest to determine, the least quantifiable of them all. What does it cost a society when a famous scientist, or a famous ballet dancer, refuses to visit the country and share their talents? And to try to put that loss into a dollar amount does nothing in comparison to what it does to the human spirit of a society.

In the history of the state of Arizona, the ideas and the actions of politicians such as Evan Mecham, caused the cancellations of such simple things as rock concerts. Well known and respected bands refused to play in Phoenix, such as U2, and it showed in the loss of the spirit of the community, and the loss in their belief in their governing parties. How does one go about trying to quantify something such as that?

One of the programs of the United States government, created to track down terrorists and those fund them, can frighten customers unnecessarily. The critics of the suspicious activity report claim that those who are conducting legitimate transactions are being victimized by the financial institutions. They claim that the paperwork created by the filing of the reports is useless and is burdensome to those who are employed by such institutions. A burden with the financial cost of billions of dollars and creates work that they deem time consuming and not necessary. The reality is that the system and the procedures that are required, are ways in which the funding of terrorists and the crime of laundering money are detected. Another aspect that has people frightened is that is against the law for those filing the reports to inform those about which the report is being filed against.

Reports are generated when activities take place that are considered to be not of ordinary circumstances. If they are transactions that the customer is not usually known to make, the personnel is required to file a report. This can be related to being pulled over due to a traffic violation. A law enforcement officer may see a driver weaving and having difficulty controlling their vehicle. The may pull the driver over under the suspicion that the driver is impaired, when in fact perhaps the steering or the transmission of the care has gone out. When the facts are uncovered the truth is revealed. The Suspicious Activity Report is extremely regulated. If no crime is being committed, evidence will be gathered that supports that innocence. People who are truly doing nothing wrong, need not be nervous or afraid. These reports have resulted in the interruption of funding for those who were intending not only crimes that break the laws of the nation, but crimes against humanity without regards to moral or ethical action.

During the years following the September 11th terrorist attack on the United States, governments around the world are creating the means and the organizations which create difficulties to those involved in the financing of terrorist activities. One of the elements used in the fight against money laundering and other forms of financial corruption is the Suspicious Activity Report. This has become one of the most important and one of the most valuable tools, as the reports will allow the proper law enforcement agencies access to the information that will serve to further their investigations.

Throughout the world, criminals have been laundering money, for decades, as a way to conceal their criminal activities. Such activities include the trafficking of drugs, financial fraud such as tax evasion and scams, and even the funding of terrorist cells. To not address the activity of money laundering, is to allow the criminals free reign to keep on conducting their business, giving power to the drug dealers, the arms dealers and the terrorists which threaten the lives of innocent citizens on a daily basis. Not stopped, their criminal gains will look legitimate through the process of laundering the funds.

Suspicious Activity Reports should be filed when a company or an individual suspects that the funds being deposited, or when certain transactions are suspected to revolve around such illegal and criminal activity. Aspects to look out for are really common sense situations. If money deposited smells like chemicals or has a strange odor or if a young kid walks into a bank with a bag full of money, attempting to deposit it and set up a wire transfer.

If one notices that a customer is sending and receiving transfers of large sums of money to and from various individuals. Certain amounts of cash transactions require employees to fill out Currency Transaction Reports, and it goes without saying, that should a customer attempt to bribe an employee to not fill out the report, that would warrant the filing of an SAR. Human behavior plays a large role, and noticing signs of fraudulent activities can save the institution from loss of integrity and possible criminal connections to those committing the crimes.

After the gold rush in Melbourne had come to an end, fewer immigrants from China were enter the city. The business shifted as did the residents. There were still Chinese owned shops, bakeries, and restaurants and cafes however. But the draw to the neighborhood was coming from the general population on the whole. Many Europeans had discovered the flavors of Chinatown and were frequenting the businesses. It was the students of the 1930′s however, that made this area of the city, the ‘hip’ and cultural scene. Many Chinese who had recently immigrated still found their social and cultural ties on these streets, however newer immigrants at this time tending to move to the out lying areas, and not into Chinatown.

And by the late 40′s and early 50′s, many became concerned, thinking that the neighborhood just may completely disappear. Big department commercial stores began moving in taking away a bit from the charm of the area, forcing many smaller businesses and boutique hotel Melbourne supported out of commission. Many historical and artistic architectural structures were demolished by the end of the 50′s. But, as the 1960′s began, the times began to change and the cultural began to shift. During the same era, the Chinatown neighborhood of San Francisco was booming, and this inspired the city in Australia. Tourism was becoming a huge industry, and the City Council of Melbourne decided to invest in the redevelopment and revitalization of Little Burke Street, and in Chinatown on the whole.

Government funding became available and an innovative plan was begun in 1984. Lighting and decorations were installed, as well as the rehabilitation of older buildings and street and sidewalk pavement replaced. Many more have immigrated since that time, from Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan. This has led to an even more diverse, but still Asian culture, with the arts and the cuisine of various nations supporting each other. Many more Asian students have filled the universities of Melbourne as a result, and the business of the community is doing better than ever, making this one of the most fascinating locations to visit on a holiday tour in Melbourne.

For all of the countries with five star hotels, Spain has a variety that is as wide as its regions, and its people. There are at least a dozen languages spoken, and the climate can vary tremendously from place to place. Local variants in food can lead toward a tendency to want to take a culinary tour of the country, but this, like anything else here, would take longer than one lifetime. There are some standards that are the same from place to place, and these are evident in the hotels. There is a love of both tradition and innovation, and guests here can expect to find old-world hospitality coupled with new technology. There are also all the other qualities that are standard in five-star hotels, where excellence in service, design, and amenities are just the beginning.

Spain has something for everyone, and is one of the most fascinating countries in Europe. With an extremely rich and complicated history, cultures that have reputations for being warm and friendly, and a sensibility that embraces style and elegance, Spain is, and has always been, a superb destination. There are also some very famous and colorful characters who come from Spain, and one of its most favorite daughters these days is Penelope Cruz. With dozens and dozens of film roles, television appearances, and high media attention, there are very few places in the world she can go without attracting a lot of attention.

It’s a beautiful arc for this character, as her origins are a little more humble. Born in Madrid to a middle class family, her father was a mechanic and her mother was a hairdresser. She studied classical ballet before she got the notion, when she saw Almodóvar’s ¡Átame! (Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down!), to be an actress. This was prescient, because not only has she become one of the most visible actresses working today, she has become one of Almodóvar’s favorites. She had a leading role in Todo sobre mi madre (All About My Mother), and she won a very well-deserved nomination for Volver (To Return). She has had many other roles, in films in Spanish and English, and is developing a reputation for her complex portrayals of complex characters, which might be shorthand for saying that she’s arrived. Penelope Cruz just might be the Queen of Spain.

Most thieves when breaking into a house, consider the door first. It is often times the easiest and the quickest way to enter a house and commit burglary. Most experts will state that dead bolt door locks will deter most burglars, they will see a dead bolt lock, and just move to the next house on the block. The doors most often searched out by home intruders are the ones that are located off the street and away from the eyes of the neighborhood or those that are passing by, such doors are the ones along the side and the back of a house, those that attach a garage to the main living quarters. And in this economy especially, most look at the price of a lock and base their decisions on that alone, but it is worth it to do a little research and spend a little more cash, in order to better protect those possessions and to protect their lives from those that may do them harm. The quality of the door lock is of utmost importance.

Some locks can be broken with a hammer or picked or pried apart with pliers, drilled off with a power tool. And if the door is located close to a window, thieves may break the window in order to unlock the door from the inside. There are two classical types of locks most residential developers install in houses, the dead bolt and the latch, the best lock combines the two. There is a system that is used to measure the durability and the security of door locks that is put out by the American Nat. Standards Institute. Their recommendation is that a Grade one dead bolt be installed. They also recommend that one should install a lock that is controlled by a key, on both sides of the door, especially important on doors that have windows that can be broken, or those that are located close to windows. These careful considerations will cause sufficient deterrents to the burglars that may approach ones house.

The Genovese mafia family of Manhattan owned many establishments during the 1960′s, amongst them, restaurants, green markets, and NY hotels. One of the hotels in ownership was the Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street. This mafia family invested a large sum of money to convert the establishment into a gay bar. Police would stop by once a week to collect their envelopes of pay off cash. This was the only spot in New York at that time, wherein people could go and dance with each other without fear of imprisonment or bodily harm. This was a hangout which could conceivably be a hangout today, during modern times of walls painted black, multiple dance floors with flickering lights. Should the police stop by, the white lights would come on which were a signal to all, to stop dancing.

History recounted states that in the early morning of 28 June, 1969, undercover police entered the Inn. Evidence for the raid was gathered earlier that evening by other members of the police force. Just about two hundred people were dancing in the lounge that night. Many of the patrons had never before been involved in a raid, those that had ran for the exits. Confusion ensued among the patrons and the officers alike. Those not able to leave where lined up and were requested to produce identification.

During this time, transvestites were arrested on charges of falsifying information incongruent with their forms of identification. There was evidence of sexual misconduct on the part of the police department when detaining lesbians. What became the beginning of the movement, was the fact that many of those released and not arrested, did not leave. With, what one writer has stated, …with wrists limp and hair in a primp, the people in the Stonewall Inn that night stood up for their rights. What resulted, was the result of an unjustified raid, and became the beginning of the Gay Rights Movement in Manhattan, and throughout the rest of the world. The Gay Pride celebrations ended this past weekend, marking the fortieth anniversary of the raid on the Stonewall Inn. And in cities throughout the world, people celebrated, and considered, how far society has come, and how far it still needs to progress.

One of the most predominant aspects of the culture of Thailand, the heart and soul if one may be so bold to state…is the art. Thai artists are world renown for their attention to detail, their stylistic design, and their competence that is supported throughout, by the traditions of their ancestors. Treasures are found on the island from Surin to Patong to Phuket City and back again. This is a country that is pre-occupied, occupied, and driven by expression in the arts.

Patong is a city that has been famous for a number of reasons in the past, their night life, the coverage of the city, post trauma after the tsunami…and what has also begun is a world wide interest in the market of art. Many travel the world around, to have the opportunity to purchase original works of art, along with the reproductions of famous paintings the Thai painters are so adept at producing. Many tourists visit, attending the openings of contemporary and modern works, as well as the traditional and mixed media installations presented in many of the hotels and the Phuket Beach resort.

Along side the artisan booths of the markets, sit up-market galleries, located near the Plaza and the area surrounding the village of Laguna. Fine artworks are on display and up for sale from the artists of the various regions of the country. Rare relics and antiques from the entire region of Southeast Asia can be found in the markets of Phuket. Also popping up are high-end boutiques, offering the works of the artisans, seamstresses and jewelers of the region.

The Burmese, the Chinese, and the Vietnamese artists are traveling daily to the markets, selling their creations to the many tourists in search of exotic mementos to bring home with them. And should one wish to purchase a wood carving created by the Shan family of Burma, be prepared to wait on the return of the investment, as the hand carved sculptures require three years to cure, at which point the final artistic touches will be applied. Shopping for art is one of the most fascinating aspects of the country of Thailand, even if one is not so fond of shopping in general.

Americans love their grills! And of course, they love them about ten times more during the summer. The smell of smoky food searing and cooking over the barbecue grill is just so completely synonymous with summer! If you are not fortunate enough to live in a state in the Union where grilling is easy all year round the summer time cookouts are even more special.

Although, I know that when I was growing up in Ohio we did not hesitate to fire up the grill during the winter if we really wanted to grill some meat. Grilling was one of the number one ways that my family cooked. After moving to Arizona, I think I have become even more spoiled. Since it’s basically beautiful out here 365 days a year, you can grill every day.

And grills have only gotten bigger and better. They started out small; grills that you use to cook over coals are considered the classic American grill. It all started with the dome shaped Weber grill. Now people are keener on gas grills because they require a lot less maintenance than their coal counterparts. Although, grilling aficionados still swear by a Weber grill and Kingsford charcoal.

With gas grills becoming the grill of choice, so now have become an entire new industry of luxury outdoor kitchens. Because people are spending more time grilling than ever they want to have the state of the art equipment right in their backyard. Steve Barbarich started online selling luxury hot tubs and Jacuzzis but has since expanded to include luxury kitchens. His website, chooseoutdoorkitchens.com takes luxury outdoor kitchens to the next level.

Bottom line is that Americans love the taste that a grill gives their food and really is there anything better? With barbecue from Carolina, Texas to Memphis it really is a national pastime.
