New York really does look like it does in all the movies, which makes the city seem familiar in a way. It was like I was visiting a place I saw in a dream. All the buildings, extremely tall, I couldn’t help but look up. I know that’s a dead give-away that I’m a tourist, but they really are very very tall and running together like an endless wall. Many building are historic and many are modern, which in my opinion seems to make New York look less attractive. The classic architecture is truly a treasure and more romantic.
After I got situated in my room of one of the four star New York hotels, I went for a walk, because when I was at JFK Airport , I immediately got on the subway and really liked the people of New York. There was this guy with a small drum kit on the train, drumming away, oblivious to all the people getting on and off. He was totally happy. I thought people might find his drumming annoying, but they weren’t; probably because he was very talented. So, while walking around New York, I felt like something was always happening. The city is so alive with energy, and I caught that enthusiasm. I got the impression that people are either just as excited to be in New York as I am, or they’re a little off kilter from having been here too long. This mix of people was totally enthralling for me. I can see why people come here to try to make it here. It’s a fantastic city. So alive, so wonderful, so intense. I’m so glad that I get a week to experience just the tip of New York, but even the tip is loaded.
Now, I’m off to do the regular touristy thing, like looking up at the skyscrapers.
