The Islands of Ibiza and Formentera
Ibiza is one of the Balearic islands of the south east coast of Spain. It is a popular tourist destination. The main town – Ibiza Town is an old medieval town which a magnificent cathedral. The old town has cobbled streets full of romance and host to an array of fine Ibiza restaurants, shops and bars. It’s the place to people watch.
Ibiza has some of the worlds premier nightclubs making it popular with the young and the beautiful. Many of the worlds greatest DJs stop over on the island to perform.
Away from the cosmopolitan center there are many beaches – in fact over 80 of them! They are perfect for sun bathing, snorkeling, swimming and surfing. On the north of the island is the famous Aguas Blancas home of the more bohemian elements of the population.
The countryside around Ibiza can be gentile or rugged and there are many places to explore and discover. There are also many smaller towns which are off the beaten track and traditional in appearance. Accommodation ranges from five star Ibiza hotels to boutique hotels in Ibiza as well as smaller villas and hostels. One of the great things about Ibiza is that you can have a change of scene in a very short time by traveling from one beach to the next or one town to another.
To the south of Ibiza lies the smaller island of Formentera. This island can only be accessed by boat or ferry. It has a rugged coastline with cliffs and small coves. There are also many long sandy beaches that are popular with tourists. The island is certainly much quieter than Ibiza but does host many popular Formentera hotels and restaurants. If it’s a more rural vacation filled with country lanes, fishing boats and sleepy villages then Formentera is the place for you.
